This 11-by-15 watercolor is a close-up head study of a bull elephant from Etosha—focusing on the eyes, tusks, and ear detail. My wife and I observed these massive bulls as they came in off the Etosha plain on one of our trips. I wanted to capture that sense of scale and presence in an intimate portrait. It’s simple, but it highlights the moment.
